Ideas to Throw in the Trash

Number one:
put your children first.

Because somehow
in defiance of
all gazillion years of evolution
my needs
and my child’s needs
are fundamentally at odds?

Because
in order for
one of us to be happy
the other must be unhappy?

I threw this cultural baggage
in the trash.

“I’d rather be…”
is the beginning of a sentence
that never needs to be given an ending.

Taking care of a child
requires no sacrifice.
It is like eating.
Like sleeping.
It is the most
natural
normal
and expected thing
an adult human could do.
